What we do

Now celebrating 10 years, PROJECT: MUSIC HEALS US has presented over 27,000 free concerts and workshops in hospitals, nursing homes, hospice centers, retirement homes, food pantries, centers for individuals with disabilities, correctional facilities, homeless shelters and refugee centers. In recognition and support of this work, the organization has been featured in the New York Times, BBC World News, The Wall Street Journal, CNN, and Forbes, and has been the recipient of several honors and awards including a National Endowment of the Arts grant, an Emerson Collective Fellowship upon the recommendation of Yo-Yo Ma, a Father Merlet International Award for Community Service, a Chamber Music America Guarneri Quartet Residency Award, and a Music Academy of the West Alumni Enterprise Award.

PMHU exists in three main branches:

We also offer an Arts Leadership program designed to support, encourage, and train young artists who are the verge of entering their professional careers.

Vision

PMHU envisions a world where music is utilized as a fully integrated tool for restoring dignity and humanity within isolated spaces.

Mission

PMHU defies social barriers, builds unlikely connections, and creates compassionate communities by bringing high-quality, interactive music programming to individuals in carceral systems, healthcare settings, and under-resourced international communities.

Purpose

PMHU is uniquely equipped to offer encouragement and education through the Arts to improve the quality of life in isolated spaces.

  • We prioritize arts experiences for individuals in carceral systems, healthcare settings, and under-resourced international communities.
  • Our musicians thrive at the intersection of artistic excellence and compassionate humanity. They are highly trained, technically brilliant, and deeply committed to sharing music with those who need it most. PMHU pays our artists for meaningful work that contributes to their vibrant and versatile careers.
  • We excel at creative adaptation, with a highly-responsive infrastructure that allows us to tailor programming to the unique needs and capabilities of any facility—ensuring no community is without access to the Arts.
